Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has postponed the implementation of tariffs on products from Canada and Mexico until April 2. He signed an executive order to delay the enforcement of the tariffs, allowing more time for negotiations.
Speaking to the media, President Trump stated, “We have postponed the tariffs on Mexico and Canada until April 2.”
It is worth noting that last month, President Trump announced a 25% tariff on Mexican and Canadian imports and a 10% tariff on Chinese goods. In response, Canada had also announced a retaliatory 25% tariff on American products.
President Trump emphasized that “April 2 will be a significant day in American history. Canada and India impose the highest taxes on our products.”
The executive order followed discussions between President Trump and the Mexican president, as well as negotiations between U.S. administration officials and Canadian authorities.
Trump further added, “We don’t need anything from Canada. I won’t even look at the market because, in the long run, America will become much stronger with what we are doing.”
